Narrative Description of Project: The main objective of the assignment was to carry out a detailed examination and study of the power plant in its current condition and advise on whether to rehabilitate or redevelop (upgrade or retire the power plant and construct a new one).

Description of Actual Services Provided by Our Staff: The specific objectives included the following:

  1. Collecting and collating relevant reports, data and information required for the study covering all the two main options of rehabilitating or redeveloping Olkaria I – 45MW geothermal power plant.
  2. Incase rehabilitation was considered the preferred option, identification of specific and cost-effective ways to REHABILITATE the Olkaria I-45MW geothermal power plant so as to extend the life expectancy by an additional 20-25 years
  3. Incase REDEVELOPMENT was considered the preferred option, indication of whether upgrading or retaining the same plant rating of 45MW would be more viable.
  4. Carrying out technical, economic and financial analysis of the options and ranking them
  5. Review of modern existing technologies for use of geothermal steam and identification of the appropriate technology that could be used in the recommended option
  6. Preparation of conceptual designs for the proposed best option
  7. Preparation of a bankable feasibility report
