Narrative Description of Project: The main objective of the study was to identify and quantify significant energy saving opportunities in the Tea Sub-Sector in Kenya
Description of Actual Services Provided by Our Staff: The specific tasks carried out included:
- Providing an overview of the energy utilization in the Kenyan tea sub-sector and an indication of technological status and capacities of the tea factories
- Quantifying the potential energy savings in selected tea factories, and through a suitable method deducing the energy saving potential for the entire tea sub-sector
- Indicating technological options to improve energy efficiency
- Evaluating investment required to realize the energy savings to make tea factories sufficiently efficient to compete with other world tea producers
- Providing a basis for approaching potential investors for the improvement of energy efficiency in the tea sub-sector
- Outlining a plan for development of energy management training activities in the tea sub-sector
