Consultancy Services for Upgrading NEMA’s Incident Reporting and Response System

Narrative Description of Project: The main objective of the assignment was to develop an incident management system which would provide a roadmap towards preparedness, response and reporting and of environmental incidents. The system was to set out functions of various actors on how to handle environmental incidents and disasters.
Description of Actual Services Provided by Our Staff: The specific tasks carried out included:
- Mapping the national institutional network for routine and rapid emergency response (RRER)
- Undertaking an analysis to strengthen NEMA’s RERU and incident management system
- Undertaking a vulnerability and capacity assessment for all the counties
- Comparative analysis of best practices and lessons learnt from similar systems elsewhere
- Organizing and facilitating a stakeholder meeting to validate findings
- To establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that are in line with the government’s efforts in disaster management
- To build capacity of the RERU to respond to environmental incidents appropriately
