Narrative Description of Project: The overall objective of this assignment was to develop a Strategic Plan to transform the KPLC Training School to support the Kenya Vision 2030 and beyond through repackaging the school in line with modern training, research and development trends to be able to effectively serve the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) and maintain a niche in the growing energy sector

Description of Actual Services Provided by Our Staff: The specific tasks performed included the following:

  • Recommending an appropriate vision, mission and core values for the training school
  • Assessment of the physical facilities and equipment and recommending transformation to a modern centre of excellence by developing a model of the institution that accommodates the new vision
  • Identification of mechanisms for strengthening partnership with Kenya Power and other players in the energy sector
  • Review of the management structure of the school and recommending ways of strengthening it to enable the school achieve its long-term objectives
  • Assessment and alignment of the human resource capacity of the school with the new vision
  • Review of the existing training programmes and recommending changes beneficial to Kenya Power and the energy sector
  • Recommending mechanisms for collaboration between the school and institutions of higher learning for the benefit of the energy sector.
  • Identification of a suitable management information system that would provide relevant information on real time basis for decision making and proper controls, while also providing a linkage to the overall company system
  • Recommending alternative avenues for revenue generation for the school
  • Formulation of a service charter for ensuring quality service delivery to all service recipients
  • Recommending an environment improvement strategy that would preserve the school’s internal and external environment to reflect an image of excellence
  • Developing a budget in line with these recommendations and a timeframe within which to implement them
  • Benchmarking with the best training/learning institutions within and outside Kenya
  • Identifying tools to monitor and evaluate performance of the plan aimed at achieving the desired goals.
