Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) of Maragua Water Supply Project

Name of Client: Murang’a South Water & Sanitation Company (MUSWASCO)

Narrative Description of Project: The main objective of the ESIA study was to identify significant environmental and social impacts associated with the proposed water supply project and recommend appropriate mitigation and enhancement measures for integration in all phases of the project. The project traversed across Kiharu and Murang’a South Sub Counties and would receive water from the 450mm diameter Kiawambeu – Kiharu mainline supply and will be constructed along the existing public road reserve and traverse some few parcels of private land. The project was funded by World Bank through the Water Services Trust Fund as a result and impact-based loan, and would be implemented by MUWASCO.

Description of Actual Services Provided by Our Staff: We provided the Environmental impact Assessment services focusing mainly on environmental components description, health, safety situation and social safeguards, potential environmental impact anticipated from the proposed project. At the end of the project, we developed an Environmental and Social Management Plan to mitigate negative impact and an ESIA Monitoring Plan.
