Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Study (ESIA) for the Proposed 400/220kV Substations in Olkaria and Lessos

Name of Client: Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO)

Narrative Description of Project: The project essentially involved the construction of two 400/200kV substations at Olkaria (Nakuru County) and Lessos (Nandi County) to step down the 400kV incoming power voltage from the Kenya – Uganda – Rwanda power transmission line. The main objective of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment study was to identify significant environmental and social impacts associated with the proposed developments and recommend appropriate mitigation measures for integration in all phases of the project cycle.

Description of Actual Services Provided by Our Staff: We carried out the assessment of the impacts on biological, physical and social environments due to the construction of the substations and related infrastructure. We also identified cost-effective mitigation measures to mitigate adverse impacts. We developed an ESMP detailing the necessary actions for implementing the measures of environmental protection
